November 24th – December 9th, 2013

This past week I’ve been working on putting together my greatest works completed for class ready to print.

Beyond this, I’ve also been working on some images of flames in Illustrator.  Provided are three images, each consisting of different colors and one of a rougher make-up of the flames’ shape.

This past week I’ve been cooperating with an associate in developing a label for his homemade Christmas Ale.  So far I’ve completed a basic design for the label on the front of the bottle, yet still need to continue on detail of the santa hat.  The back label will consist of a body of text and may influence change and/or additions to the front label.

Having been to the city this past weekend was a big eye opener.  I went to MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) and had trouble finding specific works I’d chosen for an art history project.  Though a painstaking process, I’d noticed many more works than I should have due to my roaming around the place.  After finding assistance from the information booth, I was given multiple maps of which were definitely created in Illustrator to help my navigating the museum.

This week, I’ve been working on sketches of how to best represent the non-profit organization “Do Something”; I’ve come up with various ideas, I’m trying to keep it simple still get the point across.  While achieving this, the text should remain legible which I find tough given the words’ range in size (Do Something).

This week, I’ve been noticing the technological impact on modern art.  I came across a rotary dial phone – containing nickel, dime and quarter slots (conceivably for a call’s time limit).  Such telephones had a three-dimensional exterior consisting of the essential parts to make a phone call.  Such essential parts involved coin slots, an opening for change, a rotating dial to enter numbers, the phone itself, and a pallet of instruction for how to make a phone call.  I’d consider this item a work of three-dimensional art; involving design of the parts, typography/text layout, and furthermore the technical work included.  I find it astonishing how differently phones are designed and composed today.

This week I’ve been working on an illustrator document tracing the outline of a new image of hands that I will upload later this week, for it’s still in progress (perfectionist).  I decided upon a new image which is larger and more detailed than my previous two, and furthermore is a single image containing two hands that I find more effective.

For next weeks class I should have another entire concept in mind, willing to change upon review of course, as we’ve yet to cover the aspect of design as a whole.

I found myself thoroughly examining any attractive logos I may have come across this week; not only for their looks, but for the message it should portray.  I’ve been having trouble furthering on my school project of developing a logo for a non-profit organization.  “Feeding America” was the organization I initially chose to work with, until admitting defeat to their logo after consideration.  I feel as if I’m half-way there with Human Rights Watch, another organization, but still can’t arrive at a single concept… I’m all over the place with this one.

The organization I chose with an atrocious logo, Do Something, is what I plan on continuing.  Furthering on my concept using hands as my object, I switched up the nature of the composition in attempt to more strongly represent the organization’s mission.
